As a follow-on to the popular u880, the P7200 is a very strong addition to the LG stable. It is a clamshell with a black matt finish and looks and feels solid. The P7200, unlike the u880 is not 3G but, probably disappointingly, weighs slightly more at 112g (u880: 98g). That said, the P7200 boasts quite an impressive array of features and a number of clever touches.
As is becoming de rigueur for mid and high-end phones, the internal display is a sharp 5cm 262k colour screen with adjustable brightness. The clever bit here is that it is a swivel display and can be rotated 180˚, an action that turns it into camera mode (and vice versa). Talking of camera, again there is an impressive 2MP auto-focus camera. Inexplicably, this does not have a cover which might be a drawback.
There is an external 65k TFT display and enthusiasts could assign pictures of those in their address-book which are displayed here when they call.
The diamond precision-cut keypad looks impressive and classy with strong similarity to Motorola’s RAZR V3. It works well but may take some getting used to.
Audio quality is good with the bundled ear-buds but LG may have missed a trick by putting a proprietary earphone jack rather than a standard 3.5mm one. This means music lovers are restricted with regard to ear-buds upgrade. There is also no FM radio.
Onboard storage is a decent 64Mb with expansion capability via microSD (TransFlash) cards making it possible to store hundreds even thousands of music files.
Overall, the LG P7200 is an impressive solid performer. It has a more than decent camera, good keypad and an impressive LCD screen. The multimedia capabilities are good and memory expandable. On the minus side, the battery life is disappointing, lacks FM radio and 3.5mm earphone jack. The looks may also not to everybody’s taste.
