With the LG K850 phone or the LG Prada, the Korean company has clearly decided to put in their retaliation first regarding the impending arrival of Apple’s iPhone. Like the iPhone, the LG Prada sports a touchscreen display. This is fully functional and therefore completely dispenses with the traditional keypad. Apple have got their work cut out as there is already Neonode from Sweden and the recently announced Meizu from China, the latter (if it actually materialises) uncannily similar to the iPhone in almost every respect.
The LG Prada handset is smart, sleek, light and handsome. It is actually smaller than the iPhone which is 116mm long. The Prada comes just shy of 100mm long. The thickness is similar at 12mm which is pleasingly thin.
So what are the Prada’s capabilities? It is quite capable and as is de rigueur, there is a multimedia player capable of handling a wide range of audio and video formats, for the latter including MPEG4.
There is a 2MP camera with an LED flash and native memory of 8Mb. This is measly especially compared to iPhone’s promised 4 and 8Gb. However, crucially, with the LG Prada, there is a microSD memory slot so you have the option to go for the amount of memory you require.
Whilst the standard connectivity including a web-browser, Bluetooth and infrared are there, there is no 3G or WiFi support which might be a significant drawback for some. However, it has EDGE and GPRS.
It is difficult to stray far from comparisons to Apple’s iPhone. The display on the LG Prada is 3 inches as opposed to iPhone’s larger 3.5 inches. The Prada’s resolution is 240 x 400 pixel, slightly less than iPhones.
At a featherweight 85g and measuring 99 x 54 x 12mm, the LG Prada is guaranteed to be a sensation.
