The D900 is undoubtedly an excellent phone. Unless you are smitten by its sibling’s touchscreen (E900), the D900 is clearly a better performer in many respects.
Let’s start with aesthetics: With the D900, Samsung have continued with their second –generation slider format. However, this is a lot thinner than the E900 at 13 mm. Astonishingly, even with this size reduction, they have managed to fit a 3 MP camera with auto-focus. For a phone camera, it works quite well and in natural light the pictures’ clarity and detail is amazing.
The phone weighs the same as the E900 at 93 g. It is only available in black.
Functionally, this phone is a neat performer. The display is a sharp 262K TFT screen and its menu is quite easy and intuitive.
The camera for stills, as stated above, is excellent. Video recording is in MPEG4 format and the results are surprisingly good.
The music player supports a wide range of formats including MP3, ACC, ACC+ and e-AAC+. The native memory is modest by modern standards at 70 Mb but this is expandable via a MicroSD slot. The audio output is quite good though not at par with the likes of Sony Ericsson W810i or W880i.
Otherwise, the D900 has the usual fare of features now unofficially standard on a mid-range phone like this including Bluetooth, SMS and MMS messaging, email, EDGE for internet access, GPRS, a voice recorder, polyphonic ring tones, USB connectivity, a calendar, personal organiser, clock, world time, alarm, timer, stopwatch, calculator, currency converter and Java games (embedded and downloadable).
There is no doubt that the Samsung D900 is a top-notch phone that is pleasing to the eye, performs well and is reliable. You cannot go far wrong with this one.
