Like the entire Z-series, the Sony ericsson Z610i is a clamshell. It is actually a 3G phone but the first visual impact is the lustre mirror-effect finish. Believe it or not, it does function as a mirror and you can use the front to apply make-up. However, beware of the inevitable fingerprint smudge curse of this type of finish. Hidden here is the LED display which only becomes visible when you turn it on. Nice touch.
Apart from all that style stuff, how does it perform? Pretty well we would say. Being 3G means you are able to video-call and have fast access to the internet. The Z610i does this well.
The Z610i is not part of the Walkman® stable and as such it is not marketed as a music phone. The native memory is only 16 Mb but you have the option of adding memory via the Memory Stick Micro™ which is supported.
The display is a quality 262K colour TFT, much better than the 65K TFT of the earlier models such as Z520i or Z530i.
The camera is the now standard 2MP which gives decent pictures in natural light but, like all these, rather abysmal results indoors.
Apart from all that, there is the full gamut of the standard functions including Bluetooth, Speakerphone, Vibrate-alert, Organiser, video-player, SMS, EMS, MMS, email, Java and polyphonic ringtones.
The Z610i is available in black, airy blue and rose pink. It is triband.
As a clamshell, it is inevitably on the thick side (20 mm) by current standards. The design and looks, however, may give it an edge in some people’s eyes.
